ABOUT US

Trichur Brothers, Srikrishna Mohan and Ramkumar Mohan are world renowned Carnatic Musicians. Sons of veteran Mridangam Vidwan Shri Trichur R Mohan, the brothers were exposed to Carnatic Music from a very tender age. They were titled "Trichur Brothers" by HH Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Kanchi, Shri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. They are extremely fortunate to have performed in front of many Mahatmas (Saints).

The duos hail from a traditional business family in Trichur known as the "SitaRam Group". The brothers along with their family are currently settled in Chennai.

GURUKULAM / TRAINING

They had their training under Madurai Shrimati Balamani Eswar. They were trained further by Shri Thamarakkadu Govindan Namboothiri. Later for nearly a decade they were fostered in the nuances of Advanced Carnatic Music, with emphasis on Manodharma singing, by Late Prof. Neyyattinakara Mohanachandran. Currently the brothers are under the tutelage of PadmaBhushan Shri P S Narayanaswami.

It goes without saying that both SriKrishna and Ramkumar are trained in the Laya (Rhythm) aspect of Carnatic Music by their father Shri Trichur R Mohan

CONCERTS ACROSS THE GLOBE

For more than a decade now, the Trichur Brothers have been performing far and wide across the Globe. The duo began their professional journey in the late 90s and within a very short span of time, started performing in various cities within India for well-known Sabhas and Organisations.

Their very first overseas concert was for the Indian community in Jakarta, Indonesia. They have also participated in the famous Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. Trichur Brothers regularly tour North America and have presented concerts in more than 30 cities across the United States of America and Canada.

The brothers have also toured the Middle East. The brothers were invited to sing in the Sydney Music Festival in the year 2015 and also toured New Zealand in the same year. Carnatic Music is reaching every nook and corner of the World is quite amazing, and their concert in Nairobi, Kenya for a full house auditorium stands testimony to this.

The brothers treasure the love and affection showered by Rasikas (connoisseurs) across the globe and do their best to be connected to all of them through various platforms in social media.

THE BANI (STYLE)

The duos are known for their uncompromising attitude towards Bhavam (Bhakthi, or Spiritual quotient) and Pataanthara (Orthodoxy with respect to the composers and their compositions)

They also adopt a unique style of Raga delineation where both of them exchange phrases, long and short, in exploring the nuances of a Raga (Musical Scale). Many well-known critics have pointed out this is a very unique and effective way of Raga delineation that is hitherto unattempted in duo singing.

WORLD MUSIC COLLABORATIONS

Trichur Brothers love collaborating with World Music and their fusion band "Anubhoothi" includes some of the most sought after musicians. The Bhava, Bhakthi and Rasa of Indian Classical Music are mixed with the delightful strumming of the Guitar and the soothing notes of the Piano, with the Mridangam and Western Drums adding to the magical lilt.

Band Anubhoothi has already been staged at various prestigious venues and is receiving rave reviews in the contemporary music circles.

The Trichur Brothers have also performed Jugalbandhi Concerts with well-known Hindusthani Musicians.

NAMAMI GANGE AND OTHER SOCIAL CAUSES

It's a huge privilege for the brothers to be associated with "Namami Gange", a project revived by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to clean up the National River Ganga. Their composition "Namami Gange" is now the official Theme Song of this mammoth and historic movement. The brothers are also honoured to have been invited to participate and present the song in the Dubai Stadium when Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Dubai to address a gathering of more than 50000 people.

The duos believe that music is among the most effective tools to spread social awareness. With this in mind, they have also rendered "Vande Bharathambe", a salute to the Indian Armed Forces and were personally credited by Shrimathi Nirmala SitaRaman, the Defense Minister of India. More such projects are on the way!

SCHOOLING AND EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

Both SriKrishna Mohan and Ramkumar Mohan did their schooling in Harisri Vidya Nidhi, Trichur. They have immense respect and affection for their Teachers and thank them profusely for enriching their lives in more ways than one. Their talent in music was noted at a very early age and the school had encouraged them from the very beginning. They would also like to make a special mention of their Principal Mrs Nalini Chandran and their Music Teacher at School, Shri Jose Joseph for prodding their skills from a very young age.
